The Institute of East European Law (IOR) was founded on July 18, 1957. Its tasks include a systematic study of the legal systems of the former socialist states of Eastern Europe, including legal practice and jurisprudence, dissemination of research results in Germany and abroad, participation in international legal cooperation and strengthening the exchange of scientific experience and international relations in all areas of the legal system.

At the John Paul II Catholic University of Lublin, law as a scientific discipline has been studied since the very beginning of the university’s existence, that is, since 1918, the same year when Poland regained its independence. The Faculty of Law and Socio-Economic Sciences and the Faculty of Canon Law were included in the structure of the university.
The Faculty of Law, Canon Law and Administration, participating in the mission of the university, following the idea of ​​Deo et Patriae, seeks to prepare future lawyers to be able to boldly face the challenges of modernity and creatively participate in the process. national transformation, as well as the ability to take on new tasks required by technological progress, globalization and the integration of Poland into the structures of the European Union, and to use their skills and education pro publico bono.
